A father who recently moved to Massachusetts with his family is now mourning the loss of his young daughter who died of flu-related complications.
Sopheak Paak told CBS Boston that her 4-year-old daughter Puthiraksmey fell ill last week. On Tuesday, when her temperature reached 99 degrees and the girl was coughing up blood, WCVB said, Paak took her to the Lowell General Hospital, where he claimed the doctors had ordered her to take Tylenol and send him home.

But a few days later, his condition worsened. On Saturday, Paak decided to call an ambulance.

Puthiraksmey died later in the day, he told the news channel. State health officials later confirmed the death of CBS Boston as being the third most influenza-related pediatric death in the state during the 2018-2019 influenza season.
But Paak told the WCVB that he is still waiting for the official results of the autopsy before concluding that Puthiraksmey's death was actually related to the flu. Paak expressed concern that the girl may have contracted an illness before moving to Cambodia in the United States. She reminded WHDH that she had an allergic reaction to seafood about a week before she became ill.
Paak said that his daughter liked to learn and go to school. He added that when his family had emigrated to the United States, she hoped for a better life.
"We hope that by coming here to live, everything will be fine," he added.

In a statement to CBS Boston, a spokesman for Lowell General Hospital described the death of this girl as "tragic".
"We offer our most sincere condolences to the family for the tragic loss of their daughter," said the hospital in a statement, refusing to comment because of the confidentiality rules.
