[UPDATE] Atlas Air Boeing 767 in Operation for Amazon Prime Air Crashes

Atlas Air flight 3591, an Amazon Prime Air cargo flight, was en route to George Bush International Airport from Miami at the time of its stop.

The federal aviation administrator said that a twin-engine Boeing 767 operated by Atlas Air had crashed in Trinity Bay, near Anahuac, Texas, shortly before 1:45 p.m..

According to online flight tracking sources, the aircraft involved in the accident is registered under the numbers N1217A and MSN 25865. It was delivered new by Canadian Airlines in 1992 under the name of C-GCAW and had been used by several airlines including China Southern Airlines, LAN Chile and LAN Argentina before being added to the Atlas Air fleet in 2016.

The FAA issued an Alert Notice (ALNOT) regarding Atlas Air Flight 3591 after the loss of radar and radio contact to the aircraft approximately 30 miles southeast of Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Initial reports indicate that three people were on board the aircraft.

FAA investigators are traveling to the scene of the accident and the National Transportation Safety Board has been informed.

The Chambers County Sheriff's Office said on social media:

"The device was located in Jack's Pocket, at the northern end of Trinity Bay."

The airline later confirmed the accident and said in a statement:

"Everyone in the company is deeply saddened by this event. At the present time, our main priority is to care for those affected and we will do everything in our power to help them now and in the days and weeks to come.

"We are now working with the emergency services and other agencies to establish the circumstances surrounding exactly what happened. "
