INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Health announced Wednesday that an additional 4,733 Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing in public and private labs. That brings the number of Indiana residents now known to have had the novel coronavirus to 918,230 following corrections to the dashboard the day before.
To date, 14,550 Hoosiers have been confirmed to have died from COVID-19, which includes 68 newly reported deaths that occurred between August 21 and September 14. 461 other probable deaths have been reported to date based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is recorded.
A total of 4,070,643 unique individuals were tested in Indiana, up from 4,060,372 on Tuesday. A total of 12,960,663 tests, including repeat testing for unique individuals, have been reported to the state Department of Health since February 26, 2020.
Bartholomew County reports 10,233 positive cases (up 49) with 166 deaths (up three).
Surrounding counties reported:
- Jackson: 6,389 positive cases (+ 31) with 80 deaths (no change)
- Jennings: 3,417 positive cases (up 40) with 56 deaths (up by one).
- Decatur: 3,768 positive cases (+ 31) with 95 deaths (no change)
- Shelby: 6,386 positive cases (+ 42) with 106 deaths (no change)
- Johnson: 23,106 positive cases (+ 104) with 414 deaths (+ 2)
- Brown: 1,306 positive cases (up two) with 46 deaths (up one)

Hoosiers aged 12 and over can receive a COVID-19 vaccine; persons under the age of 18 are eligible for the Pfizer vaccine only. To find an immunization clinic near you, visit https://ourshot.in.gov or call 211 if you don’t have access to a computer or need help. Appointments are preferred, but appointments are accepted on most sites.
A free COVID-19 testing and vaccination clinic will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the middle area of the Bartholomew County Fairgrounds. No appointment is necessary. Rapid antigen and PCR tests are available. Participants can choose the Pfizer vaccine (two doses) or Johnson and Johnson (one dose). The Pfizer vaccine is the only vaccine available for children 12 to 17 years old.
As of Wednesday, a total of 6,373,566 doses were administered in Indiana. This includes 3,193,151 first doses and 3,180,415 fully vaccinated people. The fully vaccinated number represents people who received a second dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines and those who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine only.
