LAGRANGE – Arlington Central School District has identified the 16-year-old who was stabbed and later died after a high school incident on Friday night.
Quraan Smith of Poughkeepsie was fatally injured in a major brawl on the school campus on Friday night. The incident happened around 9:00 p.m. after a football game between Arlington and Scarsdale High Schools. Police departments from the State Police, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, East Fishkill, Wappingers Falls, Town of Poughkeepsie and Town of Poughkeepsie were needed at the school to restore the order.
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office arrested Nestor Ortiz-Ocampo, 18, a Poughkeepsie resident and former Arlington student, and charged him with manslaughter.
A statement from the Arlington High School PTSA said Saturday in part that “the death of the Qur’an is a tragic event for the entire community of Arlington.” The PTSA also informed the community what to expect in the coming days. “There will be additional police presence and security at Arlington High School next week. “
