John Lennon responsible for breaking up the Beatles – action news jax

LONDON – (AP) – Paul McCartney has revisited the Beatles breakup, categorically refuting the suggestion that he was responsible for the band’s demise.

Speaking in an episode of BBC Radio 4’s “This Cultural Life” due to air on October 23, McCartney said it was John Lennon who wanted to disband The Beatles.

“I didn’t start the split,” McCartney said. “He was our Johnny.”

Fans of the group have long debated who was responsible for the breakup, with many blaming McCartney. But McCartney said Lennon’s desire to “take a break” was the main driver of the split.

Confusion over the breakup may have escalated because their manager asked the band members to be quiet until he made a number of business deals, McCartney said.

The interview precedes Peter Jackson’s six-hour documentary chronicling the band’s final months. “The Beatles: Get Back”, scheduled for release in November on Disney +, is sure to revisit the breakup of the legendary group. McCartney’s comments were first reported by The Observer.

Asked by interviewer John Wilson about the decision to go it alone, McCartney retorted, “Stop there. I am not the person who caused the split. Oh no, no, no. John walked into a room one day and said, “I’m leaving the Beatles. Was he the instigator of the split, or not? “

McCartney expressed his sadness over the breakup, saying the group is always doing “really good things.”

“It was my band, it was my job, it was my life. So I wanted this to continue, ”said McCartney.
