“ A low-carb carnivorous diet and a fasting diet helped me lose 35 pounds. ”

My name is Alisha Khan and I am 29 years old. I currently live in Toronto, Canada, and work as a wellness coach. After struggling with my weight and suffering from various health issues, I decided to try the low-carb, high-fat carnivorous diet and started practicing yoga.

I struggled with being overweight throughout my teenage years and well into my adult life. No matter what I tried – whether it was counting calories, doing cleanses, exercising with a personal trainer, or even taking diet pills – I was losing a little weight just for the sake of it. resume everything, then a little.

Hypothyroidism, insulin resistance, celiac disease, and fibromyalgia added even more challenges to my weight loss journey. I felt constantly tired, inflamed, and sore with each passing day. However, no amount of caffeine, massage therapy, or pain medication made a difference.

In addition to my weight loss issues, I also had mental health issues such as anxiety attacks and severe depression due to emotional and physical trauma I suffered in my early twenties. I tried antidepressants, therapy, talking to friends and family, but again nothing seemed to work.

Things got better after I married the love of my life and had our baby boy. But after giving birth, I suffered from postpartum depression.

When I got pregnant again, we were excited. But I had one of the hardest days of my life on December 23, 2019, when I miscarried with my 11 week old baby. After that, I just went numb.

I gave up all hope of living in a world in which my body was not faulty and did what it was made to be. Instead, I started to accept that this was my reality, and while I hated my body, it was what I would have to face for the rest of my life.

But my turning point came in January 2020 at the age of 28.

I was at my heaviest weight of 213 pounds on my 5’6 ” frame. One night I was playing with my son and I got so short of breath I thought I was going to have a heart attack. At that point, I realized that if I wanted to be there to watch my boy grow up, I had to stop throwing myself a pity party and start putting my health first again.

I started reviewing the profiles of the people I admired on Instagram who had managed to regain their health.

I also hopefully looked to Google for ways to do this while healing and enjoying the foods I loved, such as fatty steaks. That’s when I came across Kelly Hogan’s blog, “My Zero Carb Life”. She follows the carnivorous diet (a type of ketogenic diet that aims to supply the body with animal fats and healthy proteins). The way to eat honestly seemed too good to be true, but the more I learned about no-carb animal nutrition from the LCHF (low carb, high fat) community, the more I realized that this was going to be the key to my recovery. .

I love this way of eating because it allows me to eat amazing tasting foods while also helping me lose weight, keeping me full and reducing pain symptoms.

It also helps me to practice easily and reap the many benefits of intermittent fasting. I fast regularly from dinner to lunch, or even dinner the next day, which is between 4 and 24 hours.

This lifestyle allows me to focus on the vision of food fuel. Its simplicity allows me to keep up with my busy schedule and devote time to the things that matter most, like family, spirituality, and community. This way of eating may not be right for everyone, but it is what works for I.

Here’s what I typically eat in a day now.

  • Breakfast: Pure water, sparkling water with a blend of tasteless Redmond real salt electrolytes and black coffee while I intermittently fast.
  • Lunch: Steak and Scrambled Egg Bites, Roast Soup or Sloppy Joe / Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches.

    • Having dinner: Taco casserole, meat pizza, chicken wings, protein lasagna, pan-seared rib eye steak or creamy garlic shrimp.
    • Dessert: One tablespoon of Fatso Peanut Butter, Lily’s Sugar Free Chocolate, Ketolibriyum Keto Cupcakes, or ANS Performance Blueberry Pancakes.

I tried to do 30 minutes of movement every day, whether it was a brisk walk, bodyweight exercises at home, or just a dance party with my child.

When I started my wellness journey, I was recovering from a broken toe, so high impact cardio was difficult for me. So I found these other ways to fit into the movement.

Currently, as recommended by my rheumatologist, I have switched to 30 minutes of yoga five to seven days a week to better manage my fibromyalgia symptoms. Having never tried yoga before, it was difficult for me to stay still and in tune with my body, but as I continue to incorporate this practice into my life, I see a great improvement in my mental and physical conditions.

These three changes made the biggest difference in my weight loss results.

      1. I switched to animal nutrition and FI. This was the most significant change I have made to my lifestyle and I believe my success would not have been possible without this key element. Now that I have more awareness, I cannot stress enough the importance of nourishing our bodies well in order to achieve weight loss and good health. Many of us spend too much time and energy trying out fashion after fashion while harming our bodies in the process.
      2. I started to prioritize my self-esteem and my sanity. For years, I talked to myself in a way that I never spoke to anyone else. I deprived myself of the love I gave to others and it was terribly unfair. After starting my wellness journey, I started loving myself, putting myself first, eliminating toxic people and thoughts, practicing yoga, and becoming my biggest fan.
      3. I asked for support and shared my story. I firmly believe that sharing my journey on social media has helped me stay responsible, consistent, and allowed me to cultivate lasting and real relationships with amazing people across the world. Any progress I have made so far I attribute to the grace of God, the unwavering support of my family and friends, and the uplifting, compassionate and inclusive group of inspiring people who make up the fasting communities. and low carbs from Instagram and Facebook.

I have lost 35 pounds and over 60 inches.

I want other women who are suffering from past trauma, mental health issues, chronic illnesses, or struggling with weight loss to know: Your body hears everything your mind says. Stay positive. Stay nice. Your health and appearance may fluctuate; your worth will not. Be kind to your mind, support each other, and share your journey with the world. You never know who you can inspire along the way.
