Calling all astronomers! Don’t miss the Geminid meteor shower, peaking in mid-December with hundreds of shooting stars rushing into the night sky. It is sure to be one of the most spectacular meteor showers of the year over Colorado.
The annual rain, famous for its high number of bright, fast, yellow-colored meteors, will be active from Friday December 4 to Sunday December 17, 2020.

“This will be the best meteor shower of 2020, no doubt about it,” Bill Cooke, head of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office, told Space.com.
Year after year, the light show only gets better! Geminid rates are by far one of the most impressive, producing up to 120 shooting stars per hour at its peak.

Showers this year are expected to peak between Sunday evening, December 13, through Monday morning, December 14. While the Geminids can be difficult to see due to their speed at 22 miles per second, the moonlight should be low enough to allow those on earth to see Mother Nature’s spectacular spectacle.
According to the American Meteor Society, peak observing conditions are expected to be quite favorable this year with the full moon at just 1%.
