We are in 1862, the Earth is hollow and the bats have flown London. The city has put the city in a giant cave. Welcome to the Fallen London universe, which started out as a free-to-play browser RPG and has since branched out into games like Sunless sea and Sunless sky. Now developer Failbetter Games has announced a romance game in the same universe called Rose mask.

Rose mask takes place in 1862, just a few months after the flight from London by bats. Londoners are still adapting to life underground. The old street signs are being erased. New ministries and new festivals are being created. The mysterious Masters of the Bazaar seem to be in charge.
You share your boarding house with a few other tenants: Archie, a medical student finding out firsthand that death works differently here. Griselda, a close collaborator of the new Masters. Horatia, the patroness with a soft spot for the inhabitants of Neath. Harjit, the local agent in search of a missing person.
As you make a new life below, you may find yourself touring the underwater ruins of Parliament; intervene in a murder trial where the victim is a witness; or lead a Hooded Master and Vocabulary through the intricacies of a London court. Regardless of how you choose to live in Neath, you have your own friendships – and your own heart – to nurture.
Previous Sunless games are heavily text-based RPGs, but gained new visual worlds to explore via a movement system and light top-down combat. The upcoming game, meanwhile, will have content that Fallen London players are used to, like mystery-solving and exploration, but the game promises a significant amount of time devoted to romance and spending time in. one-on-one with characters.
A Kickstarter for the game will begin in February 2021.
