Durban – Police on Friday investigated two attacks in Woolworths stores that smashed staff and customers at Gateway and Pavilion branches.
The devices that caused the evacuation of the two stores were found Thursday.
Lt. Col. Thulani Zwane, a spokesman for the KwaZulu-Natal police, said the police had investigated two separate incidents where fires were reported Thursday in shopping malls.
"A Woolworth store located at the Pavilion Shopping Mall was arrested Thursday at 1:30 am. The police explosive unit found a suspicious device resembling a cell phone," he said. -he says.
Woolworths South Africa did not respond to an email from the Daily News regarding the damage to the store.
Zwane said police were also called to another Woolworths store in Gateway Theater's mall.
"The police investigated and found a torch-like device with a cellphone attached. We can not confirm at this point whether the two incidents are related. The reason is unknown," said Zwane.
