Durban – Police on Friday investigated two attacks in Woolworths stores that smashed staff and customers at Gateway and Pavilion branches.

The devices that caused the evacuation of the two stores were found Thursday.

Zwane said that a criminal fire case had been opened in Durban North and Westville police stations.

A policeman who attended the scene confirmed that a device had been found. He added that it was not a bomb but rather an incendiary device intended to burn and not to explode.

"Once the device spotted, security rushed people out of the store.The items were damaged when the sprinklers inside the store went out. The squadron of bombs arrived and managed to diffuse the device and contain it inside the store, "said the officer.

Via a statement, Gateway Theater of Shopping has confirmed that an incendiary device had been found in a store.
