The Presidency's website operational after a hacking attack

Thepresidency.gov.za site was hacked by unknown people on Saturday morning.

Users attempting to access the site where statements of the South African Presidency can be found were greeted by a notice saying: "Hacked by Black Sahara Team is Moroccan and Morocco is our Lord (sic) "

" We can confirm the interference with the presidency's website, our technicians are currently investigating this incident, "said Khusela Diko, spokesman for Cyril Ramaphosa. News24.

Diko said that they have no information at this stage as to who was responsible.

The site was disabled earlier by the government after it was made aware of the hacking. It was operational Saturday afternoon.

The Citizen reported in August 2017 that hacktivists operating under the Anonymous banner targeted government sites.

thepresidency.gov.za and gov.za – which is the official website of various government departments – were removed for a weekend before a rhinoceros horn auction.

Anonymous had also targeted other sites earlier in the year, such as that of the public broadcaster, the SABC.
