JOHANNESBURG – The South African Revenue Service (Sars) has named and humiliated 10 prominent South Africans who have failed to file their tax returns, including former midfielder Bafana Bafana Teko Modise. and sentenced.

The spokeswoman Janine Mqulwana said that more than 70 other cases were brought before the national authority responsible for prosecution.

"Failure to complete one's income tax return is a criminal offense, and once convicted, a taxpayer would have a criminal record."

According to a statement issued by Sars, since April, the NPA has issued 35 convocations to taxpayers and VAT vendors to face criminal charges. To date, 10 cases have been finalized and 20 cases have been returned to court following the first appearance of the taxpayers concerned. Some taxpayers have chosen to make representations to the NPA.

24 more cases were turned over to police for further investigation, while 25 investigations are still under investigation by SARS criminal investigations. and possible prosecution. The courts issued three arrest warrants to taxpayers who did not appear in court after being ordered to face criminal charges for non-filing of tax returns.
