The muskra cobra is an aggressive snake and they are potent neurotoxic and clbadified as highly dangerous. They are mostly nocturnal but are often encountered during the day in the bushveld as Helen Young discovered.
This snake was about to try to grab a gigantic meal while he was taking this big lizard …
Letaba, not far away on the road I came across a strange shape in the distance and could not distinguish what it was to find a mbadive cobra (muscular cobra is the consensus) trying to take on a large monitor lizard.
The lizard has showed tremendous strength in dragging the snake on the road. I did not want to move my car in case I snake was scared, which meant that they were a little too close to comfort each other (at one point, they were both partly entangled under my car)
Over time, I could see that the lizard was in to mark wounds in his neck and he was covered with venom.
Despite this, incredibly, the lizard was ab to escape the serpent's jaw a few times and made a quick exit. Unfortunately for the lizard, the snake caught it again (once in the face). This continued for a while and the lizard eventually stopped moving.
In the end, a car sped, which scared the snake (from underneath my car). I stayed long enough with the lizard to see what would happen next. The lizard remained motionless on the road with the exception of a few licks.
I guess it became a killing on the road, but at least it should have fed something in the end.
