Cape Town – Protesters in Gugulethu burned a fire station overnight following a land dispute, said a community official.
It is believed that some residents have invaded land owned by a private owner.
Community leader Xolelwa Halom said: "The landowner of Cyril Ramaphosa's informal camp is ready to sell the land to the city of Cape Town, but the city does not want to buy land for them, why we protested in this way. "
The Gugulethu Fire Station was burned by protesters in the early hours of Thursday morning, forcing the firefighters to leave the premises and stay in the drill yard.
According to Theo Layne's City Services, subway police and law enforcement were dealing with protesters who are involved in a land dispute with the city.
"The facade of the fire station had suffered serious damage, including the control room, the engine compartment doors and the security entrance door," said Layne
. Firefighters at the Mitchells Plain Fire Station responded to the incident. Four vehicles and a reserve at the electricity depot near NY78 Gugulethu were also set on fire
