In the wake of the imbizo, President Cyril Ramaphosa and the ANC of KZN stated that they had no intention of removing land from Zwelithini [19659002] but Lekota said that there was another option that the government could pursue on this contentious issue
"Inkosi, iSilo, we must give him a title on his land," he said.
"We must then say to him, 'This is your people who live in your land. We ask you to give each person the land on which they live. With your permission, give these people title deeds. "
" When someone has a title deed, he can own his land and develop it. We do not have to take the king's land. The king must give it to the people living on the earth. "
Lekota said that there was provision in the constitution to deal with asymmetrical land ownership patterns in the country. He said that the state could buy land from private owners and the redistribute to those who need it.
Lekota said that the Constitution did not fail to the people – saying that it was the ANC that had not implemented the Constitution has failed to improve people's lives.
