Johannesburg – The South Africa Revenue Service (SARS) said on Wednesday that customs officers made busts of condensed explosives and illicit cigarettes at the Beitbridge border post in Zimbabwe
Spokesman Sicelo Mkosi "A customs officer found 300 units of cables suspected of explosives with an approximate value of R75 000 and the driver claimed not to know who the owner was," said Mkosi.
The South African Police Service and their bombing team were immediately called to identify the explosives.
A criminal case was opened and a Zimbabwean national and the explosives were handed over to the police. The van was held and placed in the state warehouse of SARS
In another incident, Pacific Blue cigarette cartons totaling 3997 hidden in 40 bags worth about R966 915 were recovered on Saturday.
The bags belonged to a Zimbabwean pbadenger. He was later arrested.
