Other Ekurhuleni officials arrested during the sub-licensing cleaning department

As part of a blitz aimed at eliminating fraud and corruption in the licensing services of Ekurhuleni, four other officials were arrested Friday in Germiston, bringing to 13 the number of arrests in the last two weeks.

The Traffic Management Company (CCDR) announced Friday that the four Ekurhuleni metro managers, including a supervisor, had been arrested at the Germiston station in Wadeville.

Five officials were arrested Thursday in Alberton and Bedfordview offices, while four others were arrested at the Benoni Licensing Department last week.

All arrested officials would have agreed with motorists to clear license fees and penalties, which had cost municipalities, provincial authorities and the RTMC some Rm80 million per year, said Simon Zwane word of the RTMC. on behalf of deceased or unsuspecting persons, before re-registering the same vehicles on behalf of the original owners.

The arrests are part of the investigations of a multidisciplinary team consisting of the CCDR, the Metro Ekurhuleni Police Department. Control and Surveillance Unit, Gauteng Special Project Unit of the South African Police and Gauteng Road Police Compliance Unit.

Investigations continue and it is expected that more suspects will be arrested.

All officials arrested this week are scheduled to appear before the Johannesburg Commercial Crimes Court on Monday
