"Unforeseen circumstances" were cited as the reasons for the delay of a planned visit by the United Nations technical team to the North West Province to help it return to the normal.

Professor Job Mokgoro, recently appointed premier of the province, turned to United Nations agencies in South Africa to provide expertise in the areas that led the national government to place the province under administration national.

The national government would be wholly responsible for the management of five of the ten ministries under administration: health, education, social development, public works and the prime minister's office.

Violent protests spread throughout the province earlier this year, after years of mismanagement by former Prime Minister Supra Mahumapelo, who resigned as prime minister in May.

Mokgoro contacted the UN technical team and recently met with the UN coordinator Nardos Bekele-Thomas to discuss ways to help the province.

Bekele-Thomas urged the UN agencies to ensure that all the necessary resources and expertise are directed to the key areas that need to be unlocked to put the Northwest back on the road to recovery. Mokgoro spokesman Vuyisile Ngesi said: "But later on Monday, Ngesi confirmed that UN agencies have not yet started work in the province," he added. . "

Ngesi said that the United Nations technical team would help health and the provision of quality health services, social services, agriculture, anti-corruption to all government levels in the province, planning, monitoring and evaluation, and youth empowerment initiatives.
