Trek4Mandela Kilimanjaro Climbers is back to SA

The group of South Africans who climbed Kilimanjaro as part of Nelson Mandela's centennial celebrations arrived in the country on Friday night.

The group landed at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg after reaching the highest peak in Africa. Mandela Day Wednesday, when the former president would have been 100 years old.

They left on the Marangu Road, the most difficult of the five roads to raise the funds needed to "keep girls in school" and to help raise public awareness of the need for sanitary napkins for schoolgirls.

Most of them have been training since January, including harsh day hikes in the upper reaches of the Drakensberg every two months

. in a cheerful mood when they arrived in Johannesburg.

They were greeted by friends and family waiting for them at the airport with banners, flowers, balloons and South African flags.
