Pretoria – Bad news for Gautrain commuters. There will be no trains from Monday from Hatfield or Pretoria stations, due to a Gautrain operator strike.
There will be reduced service for the duration of the strike, but there is good news for the bankers. Trains will run during peak periods between Centurion and Sandton stations. These trains will run from 5:45 am on Mondays until 9:00 am and will run every 12 minutes.
Trains will also run every 20 minutes between Sandton and Park stations during this peak period.
No train service will be available during the peak period and only Centurion, Sandton and Park stations will be open. All trains will be eight-car trains and will run in both directions (north and south lines).
To accommodate pbadengers from the airport and Rhodesfield, Gautrain management will provide a bus service between Sandton and Rhodesfield stations. A mini-bus service will run between Rhodesfield and OR Tambo stations. This service will run from 5.45am to 7pm. A fixed fare of R21 per bus ride will apply to this service.
Gautrain spokesman Kesagee Nayager said the wickets at all stations would be closed and that pbadengers would be asked to use ATMs or charge money on the Gautrain website. She stated that pbadengers with affected monthly or weekly rail products would be reimbursed for lost trips.
Nayager warned that pbadengers could expect extended travel times for some of these trips.
