Pretoria – Gauteng member of the executive committee of the African National Congress and Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi is the new vice president of the ANC of the province

Lesufi, Ekurhuleni region, beat the education Mr. CE Lebogang Maile at the Provincial Conference underway in Irene, Pretoria. Lesufi got 22 votes more than Maile.

A total of 1,244 delegates voted for the last four posts after the election of David Makhura unopposed Friday night. Twelve of the delegates did not vote, said the electoral agency.

The former Mayor of Emfuleni, Jacob Khawe, is the new provincial secretary after clashing with District Mayor West Rand Boyce Maneli. Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko was elected deputy secretary and the former mayor of Johannesburg Parks Tau is the new treasurer.

The new leaders receive a resounding welcome from the delegates who come on stage. Former provincial president, Paul Mashatile, joined them as the hall was erected and sang the popular song of the ANC "Phakama".

The second day of the conference will be mainly devoted to commissions, where delegates will evaluate ANC policies and should report their decisions on Sunday.
