All members of the University of Wyoming community are now eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19, another major step towards a return to a traditional fall 2021 semester.
Albany County’s immunization program today (Monday) enters Phase 2 of administering vaccines according to guidelines from the Wyoming Department of Health, meaning all residents of the county over the age of 16 and more can schedule vaccination appointments. This includes all UW students.
Already, nearly 11,000 residents of the county – including many UW employees and students with certain health conditions – have received at least the first dose of Moderna and Pfizer vaccine as part of the county’s vaccination program, a collaborative effort of Albany County Public Health, UW and Ivinson Memorial Hospital. On Saturday, around 315 students who live in UW dorms and fraternity and sisterhood homes – who qualified under phase 1c4 – received the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine, which did not requires only one dose.

UW students should keep in mind that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines each require two doses several weeks apart, so those not planning on returning to campus after spring break should consider return to receive the second dose or to be vaccinated in their home community.
There are several options for scheduling dates in Albany County:
– Albany County Immunization Clinic – People who have signed up for a My Health Connection account will have the option to schedule a vaccination appointment on their own. Due to the availability of appointments, scheduling links will be randomized in the system and sent to individuals. Individuals can continue to call the Albany County Vaccine Call Center to schedule at (307) 766-8222 Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Due to high call volume, individuals should stay patient and try again later if their calls do not go through initially.
– Walmart Pharmacy – Walmart has received a federal allowance from the COVID-19 vaccine. Eligible people can visit the Walmart website to make appointments.
– Walgreens Pharmacy – Walgreens has received a federal allowance from the COVID-19 vaccine. Eligible individuals can visit the Walgreens website to make appointments.
– Pole Mountain Pharmacy – Pole Mountain received a county allowance for the COVID-19 vaccine. Eligible individuals can visit the Pole Mountain website to make appointments.
– Licensed Health Care Clinics – Stitches Acute Care, Laramie Pediatrics, Albany Community Health Clinic, Ivinson Medical Group, Downtown Clinic, and Laramie Family Physicians have received a limited amount of vaccines. Patients at these clinics can call their provider’s offices to inquire about vaccine availability.
Those who need travel assistance for their immunizations can request rides by calling UW Transit and Parking Services at (307) 766-7433. Requests should be planned in advance, if possible. Callers should indicate if transportation is related to vaccination and if special accommodations are required.
Although vaccinations are not mandatory for students and UW employees, they are strongly encouraged. And, to allow the university to track overall immunization numbers, students and employees must report their immunizations once they have received them.
Students who receive their COVID-19 vaccination should upload the documentation to the Student Health Service Patient Portal as soon as their vaccine series is completed.
