All you need to know about Sunday's 'Full Strawberry Moon'

The month of June was a busy month with potential spectacular views for observers, not to mention the first month of Summer's Full Strawberry Moon.

The full moon of the month takes its name from the fact that it is the best time of the year for the ripening of strawberries. She is also known as Honey Moon, Mead Moon and Full Rose Moon in some areas.

According to NASA, the strawberry of the moon takes its name from the Algonquin tribe because of the "relatively short season for strawberry harvesting in northeastern North America."

The strawberry moon is expected to be complete for the first time on Sunday, June 16th, Father's Day in North America. According to the Old Farmer Almanac, the moon will reach its last quarter on June 25.

The almanac advises to sit on a garden chair after sundown on the nights of June 16th and 17th, as Jupiter and some of its moons might also be visible.

Jupiter has reached the opposition – when the Earth is directly between the planet and the sun – on the night of June 10. NASA says the planet will rise at dusk and remain visible all night, if conditions permit, throughout the month.

"Although the opposition takes place on a specific date, the entire month is about as good a time to observe the planet and its four largest moons," says the space agency.

It should also be noted that Mercury and Mars should be briefly visible after sundown on June 17, 18 and 19. NASA says that if observers can grab a view, this view should be spectacular.

During these days, the two planets will appear extremely close to each other just after sunset. The sunset is expected around 21h12. June 17, 18 and 19 in Michigan.
