ALLEGHENY COUNTY COUNTY: 4 new confirmed measles cases in Allegheny County

PITTSBURGH – The Allegheny County Health Department has confirmed new cases of measles.

A case had been confirmed earlier this week and people shopping in two grocery stores in the Shadyside area were alerted to a possible exposure.

Health officials said that there were four other cases, all belonging to the same family. Two children and one adult visit abroad; another adult is a resident of Allegheny County.

One of the patients visited the Enterprise rental car located at 2260 Babcock Blvd. Wednesday, May 1st between 2 pm and 3 pm on. Anyone who was there until 5 pm may have been potentially exposed.

The last public exposure of the final patient would have occurred at the Pittsburgh International Airport on Tuesday, April 16 between 7:30 am and 10:00 am.

Health officials said most people are not at risk because they have been vaccinated or had measles. People born before 1957 are considered immune.

Those most at risk are infants under one year old, those who have not been vaccinated and people from regions of the world where vaccination rates are low.

Allegheny County has a vaccination rate greater than 95%.
