Anne Arundel County has canceled second-dose immunization clinics scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday due to “no vaccine coming from the Maryland Department of Health,” he said in a statement Press.

Anne Arundel County has canceled second-dose immunization clinics scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday due to “no vaccine coming from the Maryland Department of Health,” he said in a statement Press.

The county said about 7,000 second-dose vaccines have been delayed over the past two weeks, and deliveries are expected later this week.

The delay will not affect vaccination clinics for the first doses.

Those affected by the cancellation will be contacted by email or phone and will suggest appointments for Saturday. Those who cannot receive a second dose on Saturday will do so at another vaccination clinic, the county said.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Maryland Department of Health said, “The Maryland Department of Health ordered the second doses this morning – well ahead of the established order deadline – and the doses are expected to arrive on Tuesday.

“A Monday order / Tuesday delivery rate is the set standard for second doses, and local health departments have scheduled their immunization clinics accordingly in recent weeks.”

Advice from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that the second doses of vaccine be given as close to the recommended time as possible. That would be three weeks after a first dose of Pfizer and four weeks for a Moderna vaccine.

The CDC said recipients of the vaccine could receive second doses up to 42 days after the initial dose.

Additional information on vaccines can be found on the county website.
