The personal collection of American astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first to set foot on the moon exactly 49 years ago, will be auctioned by his family.
Containing more than 2,000 items, the collection will go on sale in a series of three auctions, the first in November and two others in May and November of the following year, said in a release that the items offered for sale are Robbins medallions executed during the Apollo 11 mission, including an "extremely rare gold example."
A Purdue University Centennial 1869-1969 silk flag worn by Armstrong at the Moon will also be auctioned. Purdue was the alma mater of Armstrong.
Parts of a wing and propeller of the Wright Brothers Flyer that Armstrong took with him on Apollo 11, as well as a Gemini 8 gold pin – the first flight Armstrong Space – and its Boy Cap Scouts The correspondence, including a NASA document "highlighting the planning behind the flagship event," will also be on sale, according to Heritage Auctions.
