In fact, Akainacephalus literally translates as "thorny" or "thorny" head.
Akainacephalus was an armored dinosaur and it had to be, given the fact that he lived in the same period (and probably met) the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Fossil remains were found in the Kaiparowits Formation of Grand Escalier- Escalante National Monument in Utah, and set up by volunteer expert Randy Johnson.
"It's completely different from all the other ankylosaurids we've actually seen," said Jelle Wiersma, who did a master's thesis on this discovery.
"We are the lucky paleontologists to be the first to recognize this new species," added Randall Irmis, chief curator of the Utah Museum of Natural History.
