Almost all the unspoiled nature preserved on earth is in these 5 countries

According to a new study, only five countries hold 70% of the remaining wilderness in the world.

Researchers from the University of Queensland and the Wildlife Conservation Society have identified these countries in a study published in the journal Nature.

According to her, only 23% of the planet's landmbad can now be considered "wilderness" – places with no industrial-level activity. The wilderness areas do not grow back once they are gone.

Australia: desert

Researchers have identified Australian deserts as one of the last wild areas on the planet.

The deserts of Australia are the only home for some animals, but these areas are threatened by climate change, mining and agriculture.

"We have already lost so much. We must seize this opportunity to secure the desert before it disappears forever, "the researchers write.

United States: Arctic tundra of Alaska

"Wilderness areas face the same extinction crisis as species. In the same way as the extinction of species, the erosion of wilderness is essentially irreversible, say the researchers.

Most wilderness areas in the United States are in Alaska, which is home to large areas of tundra.

The most serious threat to the Alaskan tundra is climate change, but the construction of oil pipelines and the search for oil and gas, which can kill wildlife, are other threats, according to National Geographic.

Canada: Boreal Forest

Researchers have discovered that Canada's boreal forests are one of the largest remaining virgin wildlife areas in the world.

"The boreal forest is the most intact ecosystem on the planet and holds one third of the world's terrestrial carbon," according to the study.

However, forests are at increased risk of fire and drought due to climate change, as well as activities such as mining and forestry.

Brazil: The Amazon

Much of Brazil's Amazon rainforest has been destroyed by human activities such as logging and rainforest.

They calculated that 100 years ago, only 15% of the planet's surface was used to grow crops and raise livestock. Today, more than 77% of the land (excluding Antarctica) and 87% of the oceans have been modified by the direct effects of human activity.
