The Oumuamua asteroid, an extraterrestrial probe sent to study the Earth, according to Harvard astronomers

An extraterrestrial civilization sent a spacecraft to study the Earth and we confused it with an asteroid, astronomers from one of the world's largest universities suggested.

Two Harvard astronomers published an article in which they explain why the asteroid "Oumuamua", a cigar-shaped object that pbaded through the solar system last year, accelerated and changed direction as it went beyond the planet.

Shmuel Bialy and Abraham Loeb of the Harvard Smithsonian Astrophysical Center suggested that the elongated asteroid could have an "artificial origin".

"" Oumuamua can be a fully operational probe, intentionally sent near the Earth by an extraterrestrial civilization, "they wrote.

Their research suggests several explanations for the formation of Oumuamua, considered as a "new clbad" of space objects.

He pbaded the Earth and circled our sun at 200,000 km / h and was about 800 meters long. The object was so unusual that NASA said it "has never seen a natural object with such extreme proportions in the solar system."

At first, the fact "Oumuamua seemed to accelerate the astronomers led by suggesting that it was a comet. These iced objects accelerate through a process called degbading, in which the sun heats a comet and allows it to release gases.

But in their article, Harvard astronomers have ruled out the possibility that it is an active comet.

They proposed that the machine be powered by the "solar radiation pressure" produced by the sun, but then formulated more "exotic" suggestions to explain its acceleration.

The two men suggested that it was perhaps a type of spacecraft called "veil of light", consisting of a large, very thin sheet that the light produced by the stars blew into space.

When it was crossing the solar system, it was collapsing, which could also mean that it was a wreckage of space left by extraterrestrials.

"Considering an artificial origin, one of the possibilities is that" Oumuamua is a veil of light, floating in interstellar space as a debris of advanced technological equipment, "pursued astronomers.

"Luminous sails of similar dimensions were designed and built by our own civilization, including the IKAROS project and the Starshot initiative.

"Light-sail technology could be used extensively for transporting cargo between planets or between stars."

According to them, extraterrestrial civilizations could dump used cargo ships, thus generating space debris that very much resembles the asteroid "Oumuamua".
