Nearly nine months after taking off from the Kennedy Space Center, Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster has overtaken Mars, confirms SpaceX.
Mr. Musk's red electric vehicle, "driven" by the Starman dress-up dummy, became the fastest car of all time when it exploded in February. The original plan was to get closer to the red planet but, hopefully, not to hit it.
Although the last shot from the top floor of the rocket at its launch put the car on a trajectory farther than expected, SpaceX said in a short message on Twitter that she had overtaken the car. orbit of Mars.
"Next stop, the restaurant at the end of the universe," he said, referring to Douglas Adams' hitchhiker's guide titled The Galaxy.
A tracking site reported that the car was more than 289 million kilometers from Earth and that she had traveled enough distance to travel all the world's roads 16.4 times.
The car will now continue its orbit by returning to us, where it should cross the Earth's orbit in August 2019.
According to a study, the Roadster would be a few hundred thousand kilometers from our planet in 2091, but it was also exposed that there was a 6% chance of touching the Earth within 1 million years to come, although it is simply consumed in the atmosphere.
