Berhalter names 25-player list ahead of USA-Trinidad and Tobago on January 31 in Orlando

CHICAGO (January 24, 2021) – USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter chose a 25-man roster ahead of USA-Trinidad and Tobago on January 31 in Orlando [TICKETS]. Coverage of Exploria Stadium for the United States’ opener in 2021 begins at 7 p.m. ET on FS1, UniMás and TUDN.


The squad were selected from an initial roster of 12 senior and 26 U-23 MNT players who began training Jan. 9 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The team traveled to Orlando on Sunday afternoon.


LAFC defenseman Tristan Blackmon suffered a concussion in practice on Saturday and will return to Los Angeles today.


At the start of a crucial year for the US Men’s National Team which includes the Concacaf Nations League Final Four, the Gold Cup and the start of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, the tilt against the Soca warriors gives players the opportunity to claim seats.


“The past two weeks have been absolutely fun. The hard work and determination shown by the whole squad confirms that the player pool is heading in the right direction, ”said Berhalter. “As we pass Orlando, we change gears and focus on the competition as we prepare to face Trinidad and Tobago.”

A total of 15 MLS teams are represented, with the hometown of Orlando City SC contributing four top players. Sixteen players are of eligible age for the 2021 Concacaf Olympic Qualifying Championship which will be played March 18-30 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

  • A total of 10 players took part in USMNT’s 6-0 win over El Salvador last month: Julian Araujo, Paul Arriola, Sebastian Lletget, Aaron Long, Chris Mueller, Sam Vines and Jackson Yueill started the game, while Kellyn Acosta, Kyle Duncan and Walker Zimmerman entered as substitutes.

  • Mueller made his debut in the El Salvador game, becoming the sixth player to score two goals in his first USMNT appearance. Mueller also provided an assist in the 6-0 victory.

  • Arriola opened the scoring against El Salvador with his sixth international goal, while Lletget found the back of the net for the fourth time and his second consecutive game at USMNT.

  • Lletget was also the only USMNT player to make all four matches in 2020.

  • Although he attended some of the camps in January last year, Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Cristian Roldan will seek his first cap since the 4-0 victory over Cuba in the Concacaf Nations group stage. League on November 19, 2019.
