Black holes have fascinated mankind since they were introduced more than 200 years ago. The strange entities are objects of unimaginable density and whose gravitational force is so intense that nothing, even light, can escape them. Although scientists know that they exist, astronomers have never photographed them – until now.
Now, astronomers are teasing a major new announcement about to unfold simultaneously around the world, concerning a "revolutionary" discovery of a black hole.
The series of press conferences is generating more and more enthusiasm, as they may well announce a photograph – an innovation in our understanding of the universe.
The imminent announcement concerns Event Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), announced by the European Southern Observatory (ESO), which has achieved its "first result".
EHT has been capturing data since 2006 as part of a bold black-hole imagery attempt, the first time humans have seen it.

Scientists have targeted Sagittarius A *, the supermassive black hole hidden in the middle of our galaxy.
The first images were actually produced two years ago, but were delayed due to technical difficulties.
Black holes are inherently impossible to see because they absorb all the light, preventing anyone from reaching us on Earth.
Thus, although we can understand proxy black holes, because of the way they affect the space around them, they can not be seen directly.

But the telescope hopes to capture an image of the event horizon – the point on their board where light can not escape.
This has been incredibly difficult for scientists because of the dust and disturbance around the black holes.
Now astronomers are teasing the "revolutionary" and incredibly important breakthrough of this project, suggesting that it might be over.
The main press conference will take place on 10 April in Brussels at 15.00.

Other statements will be made simultaneously in the United States, Chile, Shanghai, Japan and Taipei.
The event will be broadcast online by ESO, the European Research Council and Social Media. It will be available on YouTube.
ESO said that, "because of the importance of this result", these were encouraging satellite events around the world, where people can gather to watch.
These are events planned in the capitals of Spain, Italy, Sweden and South Africa.
