(Chicago Park neighborhood)(Chicago Park neighborhood)

Michael Kelly, CEO and Superintendent of the Chicago Park District has resigned.

Kelly resigned via email to Park District Chairman of the Board, Avis LaVelle, according to a statement released by the council of commissioners on Saturday.

President LaVelle,

Please accept this correspondence as my official letter of resignation, effective
immediately, from my position as General Superintendent and CEO. It was a
the honor of leading this extraordinary organization for the past ten years. It was also
an honor to serve the people of Chicago as a public servant for the past 27 years. I still have
had the best interests of our customers and employees at heart.

The Park District Board of Directors will consult with Mayor Lori Lightfoot to appoint an interim CEO.

The news comes just hours after the mayor called for Kelly’s sacking amid what some saw as his slowness to respond to a sexual harassment scandal involving a minor lifeguard, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
