If there is anyone who is an expert in the driving experience, it is a fast food restaurant manager.

CNN reports that when a drive-through COVID-19 vaccination clinic in South Carolina was backed up, the mayor called an expert – the manager of local restaurant Chick-fil-A.

According to CNN, the clinic opened on Jan. 22 but quickly became overwhelmed, causing the computerized registration processing system to crash.

Mayor Will Haynie told CNN he immediately thought of Jerry Walkowiak, the manager of a nearby Chick-fil-A.

“When I heard about it, I called Jerry and asked if he would come and help us,” Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie told CNN. “After examining it, he said, ‘Here is your problem there. It’s saved because you have one person who is saving people. Then he showed us how to do it right.

Walkowiak quickly organized more volunteers and reduced the wait from several hours to just 15 minutes.

The clinic administered the vaccine to 1,000 people that day, CNN reported. When these people return on February 12 for their second dose, Walkowiak has said he will be there.

Walkowiak told WCBD that, “We saw a little glitch in their drive-thru system, and we needed more people, so we gathered some of the wonderful volunteers in Rotary and went there. and we were just able to speed up the recording part.

Managers have turned to big event organizers and fast food restaurant managers to help them tackle big events like mass testing and vaccination sites.

According to the Associated Press, the state of Massachusetts has asked Boston Marathon director Dave McGillivray “to conduct mass vaccination operations at Gillette Stadium and Fenway Park.”

Inactive in his day-to-day work by the pandemic, he is part of an emerging group of event planners and other unconventional logistics experts who are using their skills to help the country vaccinate as many people as possible against COVID. -19.

AP said, “It’s amazing how our event management skills can be applied to managing a massive vaccination site,” said McGillivray, who has led the marathon for more than three decades.

The push for creative workarounds comes as virus cases rise across the country, lines multiply at testing and vaccination sites, and minds become confused as government websites crumble under the digital weight of millions of people who are desperate for dates.

AP reported that Starbucks and Amazon are providing support for vaccination operations in Washington state. In California, Disneyland is hosting a mass vaccination effort, as is Six Flags Magic Mountain, about 60 miles north.
