Confirmed cases on the rise, daily positivity test rate falling in Friday COVID numbers

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Daily confirmed COVID-19 cases in West Virginia topped 1,000 for a second day in a row Friday, the third day of last week.

The 1,081 new cases helped push the state’s active case count to more than 12,000 to 12,177, according to information released by the state Department of Health and Human Resources. The state’s daily positivity rate fell to 4.77 percent on Friday. Hospitalizations also fell for a second day in a row to 409 patients statewide.

The increase in cases in the Eastern Panhandle pushed Berkeley County into the “red” category on Friday. Other “red” counties include Mineral, Hardy, Marshall, Wood, and Jackson counties. Wayne and Boone counties went from “red” on Friday to “orange”.

There were 16 deaths added on Friday, bringing the total to 639, including 59 deaths in the past seven days.

The deaths reported on Friday include an 83-year-old man from Marshall County, a 70-year-old man from Logan County, a 59-year-old woman from Boone County, a 74-year-old woman from Lincoln County, a 72-year-old man Monroe. County, 92-year-old woman in Ohio County, 79-year-old man in Marion County, 85-year-old woman in Mineral County, 79-year-old man in Fayette County, female 68 year old in Summers County, 95- Summers County, 74 year old female, 74 year old male, Pleasants County, 71 year old male, Kanawha County, 77 year old female, Kanawha County, 75-year-old man, Jackson County, and 85-year-old man, Hampshire County.
