The estimate of 1 in 3 means that about 3 million of the county’s 10 million people have been infected with COVID-19 – more than triple the number confirmed by tests.
In addition, the report also estimates that 1 in 115 people in the county are currently infected with the new virus, an increase from 1 in 125 the previous week.

In total, Los Angeles County has recorded nearly 13,000 deaths since the start of the pandemic, with emergency services recently tasked with rationing oxygen supplies, and paramedics have advised against bringing in the patients who have little chance of resuscitation in hospitals. In the past week alone, the county has registered some 15,000 new cases of COVID-19 per day.
