The average number of daily COVID-19 cases in Ohio is dropping, but the state is still a long way from emerging from the pandemic.
The 21-day average daily case count on Tuesday was 6,094, according to the Ohio Department of Health. This is down from 6,617 just a week ago.
Ohio has not exceeded 6,617 cases in one day since September 28 with 7,283.
But that’s still considerably higher than the average of around 260 cases per day in mid-July.
Dr Bruce Vanderhoff, director of the ODH, said on Monday that cases were slowly declining across the state and country.
The 6,234 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday are down from the daily average of 6,094 for the past 21 days, according to the ODH.
Tuesday’s total includes 308 cases in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties combined.
The state had a total of 1,439,490 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday with 1,301,445 presumed cured and 22,490 deaths.
The ODH typically provides information on deaths on Tuesdays and Fridays.
There have been 217 deaths from COVID-19 since Friday, including six in Trumbull, four in Mahoning and five in Columbiana counties.
Mahoning County had 28,722 total COVID-19 cases on Tuesday with 25,486 presumed cured and 658 deaths.
Trumbull County had 21,310 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday
with 18,858 suspected
recovered and 534
deaths.
Columbiana County had 12,722 total COVID-19 cases on Tuesday with 11,051 presumed cured and 249 deaths.
VACCINATION
There were 6,331,510 people, 54.16% of the state’s population, who had at least started getting vaccinated by 6 a.m. on Tuesday, including 3,127 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH. .
In Mahoning County, 52.21 percent of the population (119,388 people) had received at least one dose with 50 percent of the population in Trumbull County (98,994 people) and 42.59 percent in the Columbiana County (43,388 people) as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to the ODH.
There were 5,889,372 people, 50.38 percent of the state’s population, who completed vaccinations at 6 a.m. Tuesday, including 5,486 in the previous 24 hours.
In Mahoning County, 48.64% of the population (111,265 people) had completed the process and 46.25% of the population of Trumbull (91,589 people) and 39.78% of the population of Columbiana (40,537 people) had done so at 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
The Warren City Health District will have a Pfizer Recall Clinic from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today in its offices at 258 E. Market St. Additional recall clinics will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on 12, 22 and 26 October.
