ORANGE COUNTY, Florida – The state is decreasing the number of new COVID-19 cases, a good thing which ranks Florida 44th in new cases per capita, according to the latest data tracker from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
CDC figures now indicate 3,782 new cases on Wednesday; that’s quite a difference from late summer, according to data from Orange County. The last time the Sunshine State saw a similar tally was in mid-July. Then, in August, data from the Florida Hospital Association shows that hospitalizations have increased.
The peak has placed cities like Jacksonville among the highest in the COVID-19 resurgence.
However, the CDC still places the state in the “high” transmission category, which is why Orange County officials have warned residents to be cautious and not to celebrate victory too soon.
The White House spoke about the tests, vaccinations and recalls on Wednesday and CDC director Dr Rochelle Walensky told Americans it was safe to get vaccinated against the coronavirus and the flu simultaneously.
“Please consider rolling up your sleeves and receiving your flu shot at the same time as your COVID shot. It has been proven safe and effective to receive both vaccines at the same time,” she said.
Meanwhile, there is also a noticeable drop in hospitalizations in Florida. Data from the Florida Hospital Association shows it, with a continuous downward trend since its peak in late August.
