VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – As the province continues to vaccinate as many high-risk people against COVID-19, 12 more people have died from the virus.
In a joint statement with provincial health official Dr Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix, they reported 465 more coronavirus infections on Tuesday.
The number of hospitalizations due to the virus has been declining since last week, with 70 of the 329 current patients in intensive care.

Although the province has had to rework its vaccination schedule – following a delay in Pfizer shipments – 93,369 British Columbians have been vaccinated so far.
“COVID-19 vaccines bring hope and challenge: hope, knowing that in a few months, many people will be immune to this virus; and challenge due to current limited supply – in BC, Canada and globally. Vaccines are our path to the better days to come. However, until this path is wide enough for everyone, we must continue to focus on our individual efforts, ”the statement read.

Dix said earlier today that the Moderna vaccine will need to be the “workhorse vaccine for first doses” pending more doses. He added that the second doses are of less concern than the delay in getting more people to their first doses, which will depend on future deliveries.
Since the start of the pandemic, 1,090 people have died from COVID-19 in British Columbia and 61,912 have contracted the virus.
There have been no new outbreaks to report and the Emerald outbreak at Elim Village in Surrey is over.
According to Fraser Health, the outbreaks are also over at Maple Ridge Seniors Village in Maple Ridge and Guildford Seniors Village in Surrey.
