COVID-19: Saint Lucia records 6 deaths, 57 new cases

Press release:- The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Elderly Affairs, today Thursday, October 7, 2021, confirms a total of fifty-seven (57) new cases of COVID-19. These cases were treated on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the Ezra Long Laboratory out of a total of 307 samples that were collected between October 3 and October 4, 2021.

This number of positive cases represents 18.6% of all samples processed on that date. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in the country to date. 11, 890.

The Ministry of Health also reports three (3) new deaths from COVID-19 and three (3) new deaths linked to COVID-19. All of these deaths occurred during the period from September 11, 2021 to October 2, 2021. To date, the total number of deaths from COVID-19 in the country is 170 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 51.

Deaths related to COVID-19 # 49 is a 47-year-old man from the Babonneau district. Deaths related to COVID-19 # 50 is an 87-year-old man from the Babonneau district. Deaths related to COVID-19 # 51 is a 63 year old male from the Dennery District.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 107 people diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the number of active cases in the country to 1,159. Of them (2) people are in critical condition while nine (9) others are seriously ill in the respiratory hospital.

To date, a total of 36 174 individuals received the first dose of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 29 912 have received the second dose. A total of 11 064 individuals received the first dose and 4,901 people received the second dose of Pfizer vaccine.

Vaccinations will continue tomorrow Friday October 8, 2021 at Jacmel Wellness Center, Gros Islet Human Resources Center, Soufriere Hospital, St Anthony Medical Center in Sunny Acres, Castries and Inno Care on Clarke Street, Vieux Fort . The distribution of vaccines is planned on all sites from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
