Covington Latin School has received Cognia Education Accreditation, awarded only to schools that demonstrate the highest educational standards by providing students with the plethora of opportunities that knowledge brings, according to a press release.
Cognia is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that accredits elementary and secondary schools in the United States and abroad, making it the largest educational accreditation system in the world.
“Obtaining Cognia accreditation and certification is a major step towards defining our universal culture of learning. We need to put into practice what we preach by demonstrating that education starts at the top and that the better we become as a learning institution, the more successful we will be in increasing the achievements of our students, ”said Dr John P Kennedy, director of Covington. Working with Cognia has provided Covington Latin School with a third-party assessment of the institution’s success and potential, according to a press release.
Cognia commended the school for achieving the highest standards that positively affect student learning in the pursuit of excellence. Upon completion of the rigorous assessment, Cognia defined Covington Latin School as an “impact school” and granted it full accreditation and certification.

To celebrate this international mark of quality, the leadership of Covington Latin School is using evaluation to develop a progress plan anchored in continuous improvement, according to a press release.
Research from the National Education Association shows that student learning is influenced more deeply by the quality of teachers than by any other school factor. As such, a primary guideline of Covington Latin’s Continuous Improvement Plan is to invest in the professional development of their teachers in order to support and nurture these educators.
The professional development portion of the Covington Latin School improvement plan will run throughout the school year. The program began with the first professional development topic focused on achieving the school’s mission success:
August – September: gifted and doubly exceptional
October – November: Leadership and communication strategies
The rest of the content of the plan will be determined by compiling other conversations with educators, reviewing institutional best practices for a typical curriculum, and implementing final determinations of the Cognia exam.
The overarching goal is to enable instructors to be even more successful in fulfilling the school’s mission of educating the diverse student body to reach their full potential.
