Uruguay alert on the appearance of listeriosis in frozen products

Montevideo.- The Uruguayan authorities have alerted the population to the presence of listeriosis in frozen foods from Europe, mainly from Hungary, and to vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, People with Immunological Diseases and the Elderly

As reported today by the Stewardship of Montevideo (IM) the authorities of the South Country received a communication from Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) ] reporting an outbreak in Europe of listeriosis, an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes that can contaminate food.

More specifically, the authorities have warned of the presence of this bacterium in lots of frozen sweet corn, frozen vegetable mix, Russian salad, green beans and peas corresponding to the brand Pingüin.

According to the GI statement, the products on alert were manufactured between 13 August 2016 and 20 June 2018 and originate in Hungary.
