A Las Vegas father dying of COVID-19 sent his fiancee the heartbreaking text, “I should have gotten the damn vaccine” just before he succumbed, according to new reports.

Michael Freedy, 39, had gone on vacation with his fiancee Jessica du Preez and their children, aged 17, 10, 7, 6 and 17 months, in mid-July, KVVU reported.

Shortly after their return, Freedy went to the hospital with a painful rash.

There, he ended up testing positive for COVID-19.

He returned home to try to overcome the illness in isolation, but his symptoms became increasingly severe, the outlet reported.

“Early Tuesday morning, I would say around 3 or 4 in the morning, he wakes me up in a panic,” du Preez told Fox TV. “He said to me, ‘I can’t breathe. I know something is wrong.’ “

Freedy couldn’t even stand, so the couple returned to the hospital.

He was admitted with pneumonia in both lungs and transferred to another hospital, where du Preez was allowed to see him.

“I kept telling her, ‘You’re going to be fine, you have to go home,'” she said.

Instead, his condition deteriorated and he was transferred to the ICU.

“I was able to call before they greeted him, and he sat down on the phone,” du Preez said. “And I could hear it. I was like, ‘Please keep fighting. Don’t give up.’ And he’s like, ‘I’m trying to fight, but they’re going to intubate me and put me underground.’ “

At one point, Freedy texted du Preez from the hospital.

CORONAVIRUS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

“Oh my [expletive] God. It’s terrible, “he wrote, according to CBS-TV affiliate KLAS.” I should have been vaccinated. “

Freedy died in hospital Thursday morning with du Preez by his side.

“I was in the hospital visiting Mike and telling him about our kids’ day and how everyone was shooting for him,” du Preez wrote on a GoFundMe page. “His numbers have collapsed and they haven’t been able to come up with them.

“The love of my life, my rock, my everything. The father of my babies is no longer with us. I don’t know what to do.”

Freedy was not vaccinated – although his fiancee said the couple planned to become vaccinated afterwards.

“We were just waiting, and now to think that if we had just gotten the vaccine a week or a month before when one of our jobs had a vaccination issue, he could still be here,” she told the station.

“We wanted to wait just a year after release to see what effects people were having, but there was never any intention of not getting it,” she added to KVVU.

Du Preez, who said she would always regret the move, is now vaccinated along with the couple’s oldest child.

She said that even though the vaccine had prevented her fiancé’s symptoms “a little”, “it could have stopped the coronavirus from progressing so quickly.”

“I expected to be 30 years older with him,” du Preez said. “I didn’t expect him to be gone.”
