A man died after being shot by a sheriff’s deputy in Tate County, Mississippi.

The incident happened Thursday near Lyes Rd. In Looxahoma, Mississippi at around 4 p.m.

According to the Tate County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy was trying to serve a domestic violence warrant on Keith Bernard Cole, who also had a restraining order against him that was not served.

The Tate County Sheriff’s Office said when the deputy tried to stop Cole, he fled on foot and hid in the woods, leading the deputy to pursue him.

Soon after, Cole was shot twice, ending in his death.

The Tate County Sheriff’s Office couldn’t comment on exactly what caused the deputy’s dismissal, only that the deputy’s body camera images are consistent with the reason he gave for having used his weapon.

Cole’s family, however, disagree.

Cole’s family, who saw the body camera footage, said Cole was on the ground when the deputy told him to stand up.

The family said Cole went to pull up his pants and turned around when the deputy first shot him.

According to the family, one of Cole’s hands popped up in an upward motion and that’s when he was hit by a second bullet from the deputy.

Cole’s sister Lisa Cole said after watching the footage that her brother was shot “in cold blood” and he obeyed the MP’s orders.

The Tate County Sheriff’s Office said the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case.

Tonight on FOX13 News at 9 p.m., listen to Cole’s family.

This is a developing story. Keep checking back for future updates.
