Donate blood for Gordon – Nodaway News

[ad_1]

A blood drive will be held from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 14 in honor of Gordon Wiederholt at the Ravenwood Community Building, 114 West Hawk Street.

Gordon, who just turned four, was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). One in 4,344 children are born with HLHS, while one in 100 children are born with some type of congenital heart defect, her mother said.

Gordon has just had his third open heart surgery and underwent cardiac catheterization on October 5. Before each of the small interventions, his parents must sign a form authorizing a blood transfusion if necessary. He needed several blood transfusions.

He is the son of Cassie and Adam Wiederholt, Ravenwood. He has a younger sister named Jocelyn. The Donate for Gordon blood drive is a way for the family to give back and honor their continuing fighting spirit. Donating blood will provide the same opportunity for loved ones to flourish.

There is also a local toy drive for the playroom on the fourth floor of the Sutherland Tower at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Gordon has selected items that can be shipped to Wiederholt’s home or dropped off by the blood drive. The link is amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/39KAZNYF85N8I? Ref_ = wl_share. Blood donation is not mandatory to donate a toy.

Appointments are privileged for blood donation. Masks are mandatory for all donors, regardless of their vaccination status.
