Douglas County Reports 142 New Cases of COVID-19; 635 remain active | News, Sports, Jobs

February 2 COVID-19 update from the Department of Health

Douglas County reported 8,238 cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, an increase of 142 cases since Monday.

In Douglas County, 7,603 of 8,238 cases are inactive or beyond the infectious period, according to Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health, which means 635 cases are active.

The county has averaged 29 new cases per day over the past 14 days, according to a 14-day moving average chart updated on weekdays by the health department. The current average of 28.5 new cases per day is down from the recent high of 71 cases per day in early January.

Douglas County has a 14-day COVID-19 incidence rate of 331.7 per 100,000 population. Ten patients at Lawrence Hospital had COVID-19 on Tuesday, two fewer than Monday. To date, 64 residents of Douglas County have died from COVID-19.

The Lawrence-Douglas County clinic and public health administrative offices will be closed on Wednesday, according to the update, and no COVID-19 numbers will be released on that day. Health Department staff will operate a Phase 2 COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Wednesday. To be vaccinated, those selected must bring a digital or hard copy of the QR code they should have received from the health service.
