Downstream lawmakers back abortion by voting against Hyde Amendment – The News Herald

To the Editor: It’s time for US Representative Debbie Dingell (D-12th District) to truly represent the wishes of the people of the 12th Congressional District. The people downstream are pro-life. We want to protect innocent life from conception to natural death. We do volunteer work in crisis pregnancy centers. We donate time and generously treasure to various causes to help children and adults, friends and neighbors in an ordinary way and especially in times of need or tragedy.

We don’t want our federal taxes to be used to fund abortions. That’s the purpose of the Hyde Amendment, which Congress and Ms Dingell have always supported before, but do not support this year.

Everyone should follow God’s Ten Commandments, especially “Thou shalt not kill”. However, Ms. Dingell and other Democratic members of Congress will make us all pay for the murder of innocent babies in the womb. They recently voted against including the Hyde Amendment in the federal budget.

When the budget bill arrived in the Senate, the Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters did not vote to include the Hyde amendment. They too do not represent the will of the people of Michigan.

Since 1976, through the Democratic and Republican administrations, the Hyde Amendment has been passed with every federal spending bill to prevent federal taxes from paying for abortions.

The Hyde Amendment prevents federal tax dollars from being wasted on killing unborn children. This amendment preserves the lives of the next generation, while protecting mothers, fathers and grandparents from the possible grief of knowing that their child has been intentionally killed.

It’s time for Congressmen Dingell and Sens. Stabenow and Peters to correct their representation of Michigan on the federal budget. They can save lives and save money by voting for the Hyde Amendment in upcoming budget votes in the US House and Senate.

Now is the time to make calls and write letters to our representatives. They should be held accountable to voters. Include the Hyde Amendment in all federal tax laws.
