SAN FRANCISCO (CNN / WFLA) – Everyone knows that drinking too much sweet sodas is not good for you, but do not take a bottle of juice instead.
A new study indicates that even though sugar in fruit juices is naturally present, it is just as harmful to you as sweet drinks.
It's so unhealthy that drinking too much is associated with a chance to die prematurely up to 42%.
The scientists correlated by examining existing data on stroke for more than 13,000 adults.
They discovered that people who consume 10% or more of their daily calories from a sugary drink increase their risk of premature death by 14%.
The increase in the number of premature deaths due to coronary heart disease is 44%.
Sugary drinks are thought to increase insulin resistance and lead to weight gain around the waist.
Excessive consumption of sugar also causes obesity, diabetes and high triglycerides.
