MILERSBURG – A Presque Isle County man faces 10 gun and drug charges after police found several handguns and drugs at a tower residence.
Police arrested Jeffrey William Kortman, 59, of Millersburg on August 16 when they found three loaded handguns, ammunition, drug paraphernalia, a large amount of crystal meth and alprazolam – a drug that can cause paranoid or suicidal thoughts and can lead to death – in his van as Kortman left a tower residence where police suspected drug-related activity.
Police found one of the guns in a box of dog treats and another – with an amount of methamphetamine – hidden in a first aid kit under the passenger seat of the truck, according to D / Lt. Kenneth Mills, unit commander of the Strait Counter Narcotics Team, who led the arrest.
When police then searched the Tower house, they found two other weapons, also loaded, along with methamphetamine and other narcotics. They arrested the resident of the house, Michael Allen Boughner, 56, who faces nine drug and gun charges, including intent to deliver methamphetamine.
In addition to intent to deliver and other drug possession charges, Kortman faces multiple criminal possession charges and two firearm possession charges against an offender. usual.

In recent years, northern Michigan police have discovered more guns in conjunction with narcotics arrests, according to Mills.
Methamphetamine distributors want the guns, as well as surveillance cameras installed on a growing number of homes where drugs are sold, not as protection against the police but against others who sell and use methamphetamine, Mills said. .
