– A mass COVID-19 vaccination site may soon be in Durham.

Durham Director of Public Health Rodney Jenkins said North Carolina State and Fidelity were close to reaching an agreement for a site in the county.

“We are excited about the potential of working together to expand our vaccination capacity here in Durham with the opening of our first mass vaccination site,” Jenkins said. “We’re still working on details like opening hours, scheduling appointments and other logistical considerations, but our goal is to open to the public in the first weeks of February.”

The county said Tuesday that a mass site would have the capacity to vaccinate up to 17,000 people per week.

Durham’s existing vaccination site at Southern High School has vaccines available by appointment. Eligible persons can call the appointment line at 919-560-HELP (919-560-4357) Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or make an appointment or register online for the waiting list county vaccines.

Mass vaccination sites have already been set up in other parts of the state, including Charlotte and Greenville.
