Early Friday snow could affect morning commutes in northern Virginia | Local weather

The snow is in the forecast on Friday morning, with an accumulation range of about 4 inches depending on where you are in the area.

A winter conditions notice will be in effect from 22h. Thursday until 10 o'clock Friday, according to the National Meteorological Service.

Snow and ice pellets are expected, with about 2 to 4 inches for most of the region and a little less in the Interstate 95 corridor outside the Beltway.

Forecasters believe that motorists must predict slippery road conditions and potential impacts on daily commutes.

The Virginia Department of Transportation was preparing the roads on Thursday and officials said the plows would be placed overnight.

"When driving in winter, it is not advisable to allow more time for trips, to reduce speed considerably, to brake slightly and to leave enough of next distance ", according to a VDOT alert.

Another mild threat of winter storm threatens the night from Sunday to Monday morning, mostly to the west of Interstate 95, forecasters said.
